INTRO TO CANSKATE - ICE SHOW DETAILS & END OF YEAR PLAN

Intro to Canskate

Thank you so much for a great ice show rehearsal on Sunday. Thanks to all the volunteers who made things run as smooth as a dress rehearsal could. You parents are wonderful to keep those little people undercontrol for so long.

Sunday March 11 th is the Ice Show.

Chasing the Dream in 2018. Thank you Addison Carnegie for the name. Also thank you to all the others that were submitted we have stashed them away for future ice shows as there were many wonderful titles to choose from.

The Ice show will start at 4:00 at Credit Union Place.

Intro to Canskaters  please be ready by 3:50. The less time we have them corralled the better!

Please enter from the main entrance of the arena on this day. There is a lot of setting up and organizing happening at the east end of the arena. Also the dressing room assignments will be posted prior to entering dressing room hallways. They may vary from yesterday as we are hoping that we have 6 dressing rooms to use and unsquish some of groups.

So we have made a couple changes for the little people. LOL ! there will be two parents  ( Eric Solski & Valerie Harrison ) helping the kids on the ice and off the ice. Jodi, Danielle, Malcom (yes we recruited one more) & myself will go in the ice with the kids. Once they have wowed the crowd we will go directly up to the stands where they sat yesterday. Also the skate guards will only put on after we do our number. Less hassle in the hallway.

For the finale the kids will go on with us and the synchro team.  Once we have them on the ice you are welcome to go back up to the stands to watch the finale. After the ice show please meet your child/children in the dressing room. We will get them back to the dressing room. Please do not come to the Zamboni entrance to pick up your child too many people for that small area.

Rest of year plan…

Sunday March 4th regular ice time BUT at the Rotary Arena

Sunday March 11th Ice Show

Sunday March 18th regular ice time

Thursday March 22nd Family Skate End of Season/Report Cards & Badges

Once you have your child dressed and ready to go please leave them in the care of the leader and stand volunteers. It is much easier to get skaters where they need to go without extra parents hanging around.

After the ice show please meet your child/children in the dressing room. Please do not come to the Zamboni entrance to pick up your child, use the main entrance to go to the dressing rooms.

CANSKATE EVALUATIONS

Feb 15, 2018 11:41 AM
Message:

We are getting to the end of the season for CanSkate. Skate Dauphin wanted to make sure all parents knew that the CanSkate Coaching team is still doing evaluations on the skaters right up until the last day of CanSkate. We notice that there is a lot of skaters stop coming after the ice show so we wanted to share and make sure everyone was aware of the process.

Right now everyone is focused on the ice show prep. After the ice show performance on March 11th there are three more scheduled days for CanSkate. March 12, 15 and 19th. Skaters will be back to their regular assigned days to participate. On these days Coaches will be doing evaluations to give badges and ribbons as they have completed them.

March 22nd will be annual Family Skate where the badges and ribbons can be picked up.

ICE SHOW DETAILS JAN 23RD

Jan 23, 2018 9:56 PM
Message:

Thank you to everyone who were able to come to Thursday’s meeting and to those who volunteered to help make our ice show a success!

Our Ice Show rehearsal is February 25, 2018, Time TBA. This Ice Show is March 11, 2018 Time TBA.

We will be having extra Canskate practices (with BOTH Monday and Thursday groups) Monday, Feb 12, Thursday Feb 15, Monday Feb 19, Thursday Feb 22, and Thursday March 8.

We still have a few spots open for volunteers, so please check the job descriptions again and the check to see if your group needs more volunteers. I forgot to mention that we encourage co-team leaders if you feel the job is too big for one person. Feel free to help the leaders out as well if you need.

I also need to mention again that if you feel that your child may need to have you sit with him/her in the stands for rehearsal/the ice show, you will need to volunteer to be a skate guard/stand helper. We do not allow parents to sit with their children who are skating during the shows, unless they have volunteered to help the group.

For each group we need a

  1. Team leader(s) (1-2 parents/group) - Call 1-2 quick meetings with parents, usually during your child’s skating time. Meetings would consist of gathering ideas for costumes, confirming costume decisions, and then making sure everyone has a costume ready. Many of these “meetings” could even be through group emails. (Skate Dauphin will supply email addresses). Team leaders also take attendance of their groups in the dressing room the day of the rehearsal and Ice show. If the leaders have questions, they can email Stephen/Ginny Yeo
  2. Skate guard/Stand volunteers (2-3 parents/group) – These volunteers will sit in the stands with children, assist if they need to go to the washroom or help with costume glitches, line the kids up before their performance and take off/put on skate guards. *We ask that all parents sit in the audience during the dress rehearsal/Ice Show. This volunteer position ensures that you will be able to sit with your child on the performance days if they are nervous/anxious.

Here is our volunteer list for the 2017/18 Olympic Ice Show:

*I apologize if we have missed your name or for any spelling errors (I should have taken last names!) Please email if there are any errors or omissions!

If you are on the list and your last name is not listed, please email us ASAP! Or if your child has changed groups, let us know and we can switch your volunteer position to the group that your child is in!

If you aren’t sure which group your child is in, please refer to the email sent earlier tonight from Becky, or the attachment on this email.

*Danielle apologizes for misinformation regarding the vision of the costumes for this group. Donna is looking for the skaters to be the actual “torches” (using the white coveralls from the chicken costumes last year). Their upper bodies (waist and higher) are to be the “flames”. If you have a different idea, feel free to run with it!
